Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic is one of the first 28 national exemplary polytechnics, whose predecessors are Lanzhou Oil School of the Petroleum Ministry, Lanzhou Chemical School of Ministry of Chemical Industry, Lanlian Staff and Workers University and Lanhua Staff and Workers University founded in 1956. Since 1984, it has directly been subordinated to Sinopec and was transferred to Gansu Province in 2000. In 1999, it became the first advanced technical and vocational college with independent function in Gansu Province approved by the national Ministry of Education. In 2005, it passed the examination of the ISO9001:2000 International Quality Management Systems Certification and got the certificate. In 2010, Gansu Industrial Technician College was founded in Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic, approved by Gansu provincial government.
During the past 60 year history, Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic, following its motto “Great effort, Self-cultivation, and Loyalty Lead to Achievements”, adhering to the schooling features of “Rooting in Petrochemical Industries, Inheriting the ‘Iron-man’ spirit, Extending the Personnel Training, Outreaching Training Services”, has made great progress and cultivated more than 100,000 qualified graduates, with Mr. Wang Jinxi as a representative.
Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic lies in Xigu district, Lanzhou City, covering 450 mu with building area of 300,000 square meters, holding 57 on-campus training bases, 150 labs on two campuses and 154 fixed and stable off-campus training bases. The fixed net capital is above 700 million yuan, and total value of various teaching and experimental equipments and devices 170 million yuan.
There are 552 full-time teaching staff on the campus: 60 professors，206 associate professors, and 360 with doctor and master degrees, 316 with double qualifications of teachers and engineers, 309 part-time teachers.
Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic has established ten departments and one Further Education School, six research institutes and fifteen R&D centers for enterprise technology. They are Department of Petrochemical Engineering, Department of Applied Chemical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Department of Information Processing and Control Engineering, Auto-engineering Department, Department of Humanities and Social Science, Department of Applied Foreign Languages, Civil Engineering Department, and Department of Printing and Publishing Engineering.
It opens 82 majors now. There are more than 13,000 full-time students, 3,000 part-time adult students and short-term trainees on the two campuses. In recent years, adhering to the new management concept: “Following rules, pursuing characteristics, combining teaching with production, concentrating on skills, adapting to market”, Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic positively taps the rules for advanced vocational education to improve the educational and teaching reform with full force. As a result, the graduates’ employment rate always remains above 93% for 10 years.
